Alain Cohen is a French-Israeli Krav Maga Master, international martial arts instructor, author, and founder of the Krav Maga Federation – Alain Cohen (KMF-AC). With a martial arts journey beginning at the age of six and more than two decades of professional teaching experience, his career encompasses civilian self-defense, advanced martial arts instruction, instructor education, international federation development, and specialized defensive-tactics training for law enforcement, military, and security professionals. He is also the creator of Krav Maga Online, a multilingual online training platform designed to make authentic, professional Krav Maga education accessible to students worldwide, including those who do not have easy access to qualified instructors or local training facilities.
Originally raised in France before relocating with his family to Israel, Cohen developed his martial arts background through a combination of family instruction, traditional Krav Maga training, professional education, and extensive international teaching. His approach combines the principles of Israeli Krav Maga with experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Thai Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and other combat disciplines.
Throughout his career, Alain Cohen has conducted Krav Maga seminars, instructor training courses and specialized programs around the world. His international activities are documented through an extensive photographic archive of seminars, professional training, competitions and career highlights.

Alain Cohen’s introduction to Krav Maga began at the age of six, under the guidance of his older brother, Philippe Cohen, who later attained the rank of 5th Dan in Krav Maga. Philippe became his first instructor and played a central role in his earliest martial arts development. The two brothers were later featured together on the cover of the Spanish martial arts magazine Cinturón Negro — “Hermanos Cohen: Auténtico Krav Maga de Israel”.
As Alain progressed, Philippe brought him to train under Haim Anidzar, an experienced Krav Maga instructor based in France. Both brothers continued their training under Anidzar, whose instruction became the principal foundation of Alain Cohen’s technical education and development in Krav Maga. His formative years under Anidzar contributed significantly to the technical knowledge and discipline that would later shape his professional teaching career. A historical photograph of Alain Cohen with Haim Anidzar documents their relationship.
Following his family’s relocation to Israel, Alain Cohen continued his advanced training and progression through the higher Krav Maga black belt ranks under Grand Master Raphy Elgrissy, a direct student of Imi Lichtenfeld, the founder of Krav Maga.
His progression therefore reflects three important stages of instruction: his introduction to Krav Maga through Philippe Cohen, his foundational technical education under Haim Anidzar in France, and his advanced black belt development under Raphy Elgrissy in Israel. On October 11, 2022, Elgrissy awarded Cohen his 6th Dan Black Belt in Krav Maga, together with a Certificate of Excellence recognizing his outstanding performance. Elgrissy also issued a personal letter of recommendation documenting Cohen’s technical abilities and dedication. A photograph of Alain Cohen with Raphy Elgrissy is also available.
Alain Cohen’s professional career includes not only advanced martial arts qualifications but also his appointment as an instructor and lecturer at two Israeli institutions dedicated to the professional education of sports coaches and martial arts instructors: the Wingate Institute and the Israeli College of Sport (ICS).
Cohen completed his professional Krav Maga instructor and coaching education at the Wingate Institute, Israel’s National Institute for Excellence in Sport and one of the country’s principal institutions for sports education, coaching development and elite athletic preparation.
Wingate plays a central role in Israel’s national sporting infrastructure. Its activities encompass professional coach and instructor certification, elite athlete development, national sports programmes, sports science, research and sports medicine. Since 2018, the institute has operated as a governmental corporation under the responsibility of Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sport.
Official Roles: During his professional coaching education, Cohen’s technical knowledge and teaching abilities attracted the attention of Wingate’s instructional staff. Following his professional training, Alain Cohen joined the Wingate Institute as a Krav Maga instructor and lecturer. From 2013 to 2017, Alain Cohen served as a member of the Wingate Institute’s Israeli Krav Maga Commission (Wingate Teaching Team), where he worked as a Krav Maga instructor and lecturer, contributing to the professional education and qualification of future martial arts instructors and sports coaches.
His recruitment was initiated by Dr. Guy Mor, who was then responsible for professional training activities at Wingate and recognized Cohen’s potential as an educator.
In this role, Alain Cohen moved beyond his own professional certification to the training and assessment of future instructors. He delivered Krav Maga instruction, technical seminars and professional development programmes, including courses conducted internationally in connection with Wingate’s educational activities.
These activities included training assignments in South Korea and the United States, as well as specialized instruction relating to children’s physical conditioning and development.
Cohen was also entrusted by Dr. Guy Mor with developing and writing the Krav Maga training curriculum for Wingate, contributing his technical expertise and teaching methodology to the institute’s professional instructor-education programmes.
His documented qualifications and teaching activities include:
Following his tenure at Wingate, Dr. Guy Mor went on to co-found the Israeli College of Sport (ICS), an educational institution specializing in the training and professional qualification of sports coaches and instructors.
Cohen continued his professional collaboration with Dr. Mor, joining ICS as an instructor and lecturer and contributing to its martial arts and Krav Maga education programmes.
His responsibilities involved teaching and developing future instructors, sharing practical experience acquired through his international career, and contributing to professional education in technical instruction, teaching methodology and instructor development.
His work with both Wingate and ICS represents an important dimension of his professional career: the transition from qualified martial arts practitioner and coach to educator of future professional instructors within established Israeli sports-training institutions.
Beyond Krav Maga, Alain Cohen is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt and a qualified MMA and BJJ instructor. In November 2020, he received an official MMA and BJJ Instructor Certificate from the Israeli College of Sports (ICS). His multidisciplinary martial arts education also includes Thai Boxing, for which he completed a Thai Boxing Trainer course in Bangkok, Thailand, in October 2003.
Alongside his professional teaching activities, Cohen has competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission-grappling competitions, earning medals at Israeli competitions and NAGA events.
His competitive achievements are documented through original photographs of his BJJ podium appearance, his Israeli Jiu-Jitsu competition victory, and his martial arts medal collection.
This competitive background complements his work as a Krav Maga educator, particularly in the areas of live resistance, technical application, ground fighting and practical self-defense. His individual competition results and distinctions are documented in the Awards and Honors section below.
As founder and worldwide head instructor of KMF-AC, Alain Cohen established an international martial arts organization dedicated to Krav Maga education, technical development, black belt examinations, instructor certification, and continuing professional training.
A central element of his career has been the development of instructors rather than simply delivering occasional seminars. Over the years, students trained under his supervision have progressed to instructor qualifications, established their own academies, and continued teaching the KMF-AC curriculum in their respective countries.
Through recurring international visits, technical examinations, instructor certification courses, and advanced seminars, Cohen has maintained long-term professional relationships with affiliated schools and instructors, some extending over many years.
His educational activities therefore extend beyond the students he teaches directly, reaching additional generations of practitioners through the instructors he has trained and certified.
The federation’s international network is presented through the official KMF-AC centres directory.
Throughout his international career, Alain Cohen has conducted Krav Maga seminars, advanced technical training, instructor certification courses, black belt examinations, and specialized self-defense programmes across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa, and Israel.
His activities have included both public seminars and recurring instructor-development programmes, often involving several affiliated academies during the same international visit.

From Physical DVDs to a Comprehensive Digital Academy
Cohen’s independently produced ten-DVD curriculum was particularly important because it became a precursor to his later Krav Maga Online educational platform.

An important aspect of Cohen’s international educational work is the development of future Krav Maga instructors.
Several contributors to his testimonial archive are experienced practitioners, established instructors or individuals involved in their own martial arts teaching activities.
Their experiences illustrate the broader educational role of KMF-AC: providing technical guidance, progressive curricula and professional development resources that can continue to support instructors after an initial seminar or certification programme.
The written testimonials and recordings presented in this section provide personal accounts of those experiences, complementing the documented publications, professional appointments and instructional activities described throughout Cohen’s biography.
Together, these testimonials represent a collection of personal perspectives from an international martial arts community.
They illustrate how direct instruction, instructor education, technical publications and online learning can support continuing relationships between a teacher and practitioners across different countries.
For Alain Cohen, this reflects a central principle of his educational philosophy: the role of an instructor extends beyond teaching techniques to guiding the long-term development of each student.
